Losing a home is overwhelming, and rebuilding means many decisions about permits, plans and construction. The Sun Home is a California-licensed general contractor based in Alhambra. We work alongside your architect and engineer to help you rebuild clearly and carefully, one step at a time.
How We Help
Site evaluation: We walk your lot with you and review existing conditions, access and utilities before construction planning begins.
Coordinating with your architect/engineer: We don't produce designs in-house. We work with your architect or engineer, and can help you connect with one, so the plans are buildable and the budget fits.
Permitting support: Altadena is in unincorporated LA County, so LA County permits rebuilds there. Pacific Palisades is in the City of Los Angeles, so the City's Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) handles permits there. We help you prepare and track submittals and respond to plan-check comments with the right agency.
Construction to final inspection: We manage the build, the subcontractors and the inspections through to final sign-off.
Like-for-like or upgraded rebuilds: Whether you rebuild what you had or make changes, we help you understand how each choice affects the permit path.
ADUs on rebuild lots: We can build an accessory dwelling unit as part of your rebuild where your plans and local rules allow it.
Our Process
1. Free consultation: We talk through your goals, your property and where you are in the process.
2. Site visit and evaluation: We assess the lot and review any plans or surveys you already have.
3. Plans and permits: We work with your architect/engineer on plans and support the submittal to LA County or LADBS.
4. Construction: We build to the approved plans and keep you updated at each stage.
5. Final inspection and handover: We schedule final inspections and walk you through your completed home.

FAQ
Where do I get a rebuild permit?
For Altadena (unincorporated LA County), go to LA County. Its Altadena One-Stop Permit Center is at 464 W. Woodbury Rd., Suite 210, Altadena, CA 91001, phone (626) 424-6743. For Pacific Palisades, the City of Los Angeles (LADBS) issues building permits.
What is a "like-for-like" rebuild?
In unincorporated LA County, like-for-like structures don't have to meet current zoning requirements, but they must meet current building, fire, and health and safety codes. In the City of LA, Executive Order 1 streamlines rebuilds up to 110% of the original home's footprint and height.
Can I add an ADU when I rebuild?
In unincorporated LA County, a like-for-like application can include new ADUs built along with the rebuilt structures. In the City of LA, Executive Order 1's eligibility covers ADUs.
Does my architect need special certification in Pacific Palisades?
Not necessarily. LADBS runs an optional Self-Certification Pilot Program. Under it, qualified California-licensed architects and civil engineers can certify that eligible like-for-like plans meet code instead of going through a full LADBS plan check. Approvals from other City departments are still required.
